Vehicle Owner’s Bill of Rights  No law requires you to get more than one estimate! Typically, the “at-fault” insurance company will send an appraiser out to complete an estimate. You have the right to choose which repair shop will perform the repairs to your vehicle. It is illegal for insurers to “recommend” a particular shop for repairs. In  most cases, those “recommended shops” work for the insurance company rather than for you. You may be entitled to “Diminished Value” for the damages to your vehicle. In most cases, you have the right to have your car restored to “pre-accident condition”. Some policies may require the use of aftermarket parts, where applicable, however you may have a choice.
